DP SIGNS CONTRACT WITH ECW PRESS FOR NEW BOOK

I have signed a contract with ECW Press for a new book, scheduled for release in the warm months of 2026. ECW released my first book, Trouble In The Camera Club, and I look forward to making magic happen with them again.

it’s a sort of memoir, featuring recollections of experiences with friends and musicians (Dallas Good, Louie Beeson, Steve Albini, Ramones…), my mother, a life-changing car accident, a stint attending hair school, and reflections on the early Women’s Music movement, mixed with essays about first steps into music as a teenager, being in rock bands and the bonkers situations attendant to that. And more!

LONG BRANCH SUNRISE TO SUNSET PERFORMANCE

LONG BRANCH SUNRISE TO SUNSET PERFORMANCE

Follow the Arc of the Sun is an experimental sound and music performance by the collective Long Branch. In Follow the Arc of the Sun, the ensemble offer a live performance from sunset to sundown in the Agnes Etherington House at Queen’s University in Kingston, ON. The performance engages in close listening as a process to explore the immersive dimensions of sound, responding to the increasing and diminishing light on this halfway point between the longest and shortest days. In this durational performance, Long Branch listen and respond to the tone of the house to explore interactions among movement, light, and the questions that remain at the end of the day: How am I still here? Am I still here?

Follow the Arc of the Sun coincides with the closing of the Agnes house and marks a transitional moment for the gallery and for Long Branch, as they each embark on new beginnings.

A very limited edition LP will collect highlights and be released upon Agnes House reopening in 2026. Photo by Garrett Elliott.

DP PHOTOS IN GARY TOPP BOOK

There are few people who have had as much cultural impact on Toronto as Gary Topp, who, along with his partner Gary Topp, we responsible for booking the most adventurous films, readers and bands, particularly at the venues they ran, the Roxy Theatre, the New Yorker Theatre, the Horseshoe Tavern, and The Edge.

Gary is now the subject of a major appreciation book, entitled He Hijacked My Brain: Gary Topp’s Toronto. This lavish production is 12” x 9” and is over 300 pages. It’s a beautiful book, published by UXB Press, and a significant document of some of the most radical changes to the arts in Toronto.

I’m very pleased to have some of my photographs included in this publication. It’s very limited so buy it while you still can.

EDMUND WHITE

EDMUND WHITE

The great and mind-bogglingly prolific author Edmund White in his hotel room. I shot this when he read at the 1989 International Festival of Authors in Toronto, the first time I heard him read. From thereon I read all of his books in his voice, colouring them with more depth and a conspiratorial salaciousness. RIP to one of the last of the “new” generation of gay writers, a unique voice who reported from the frontlines of the Stonewall riot, and through a massive body of work, documented his own life in the rise of 70s gay liberation, the AIDS crisis, and being a sexy slutty senior. That he had time to teach literature and writing while also researching and writing massive volumes on Genet, Proust, and others is quite astonishing. What a life. White departed this earth on June 3, 2025.
